Organizations

 Teach for America

As educators we all share a common goal and that is to ensure that all children receive quality education.

I discovered a an organization whose vision is that :

One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
The focus of this organization is to incorporate teachers from around the globe who are committed to educating children. Teach for America's mission is that:

One Day

Teach For America is growing the movement of leaders who work to ensure that kids growing up in poverty get an excellent education.

With so many children living in poverty today, there is  a great need for teachers who will not discriminate, or lessen the value of the education a child receives, simply because they are in an poverty stricken  area.

http://www.theteacherscorner.net/

Teachers have been known to be creative and very resourceful. However,  there are times when we need rely on other teachers and websites, in efforts to keep learning fun and exciting for students. I stumbled across the teachers corner. The teachers corner offered a variety of resources that will be helpful to teachers.
This site offered various lessons to be shared by other teachers. Teachers, can also post lessons that they would like to share with others. There are thematic units, bulletin board ideas. What is so cool about the ideas for bulletin boards on this site is that, there are different ideas for bulletin boards according to the month. There are links for other teacher resources, as well as a space for teachers to allow their students to collaborate with other students from around the world. The site also included a space for job postings and a cool chat room, that is just for teachers. I really like this site. it is full of various ways to keep teachers connected, and students learning.

Structure

Hello all, Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of children that are enter  school who have Autism. One of the things that I have learned about dealing with students with autism, is that the structure of the class is vitally important. I recently discovered a website entitled Autism 4 teachers.
http://autism4teachers.com/autism4teachers_017.htm. this site provided valuable information on why structure is important. According to the site, children with autism respond well to structure. it provides them with a safe and predictable environment that increases their understanding and ability to succeed. This site provided vital information on how children with autism need to have their own individual space. There are a variety of pictures that show examples on how to set up the classroom and provide students with their own space. The site offers information about the need for visuals and the importance of labels throughout the classroom. I really think this site will be helpful for new and seasoned teachers who need ideas on how to properly include children with autism into their classroom.

arrangement

Hello all I am back. I have been researching various teacher websites in efforts to learn ideas from other teacher on how to properly arrange A classroom. I am also leaning how to build structure, plan activities, and learn about teacher organizations. I have discovered four websites that I think have some great ideas and information that all teachers need.
This is a list of the website:
www.thecornerstoneforteachers.com (arrangement)
www.autism4teachers.com (structure) for children with Autism
wwwtheteacherscorner.net (great activities)
www.teachforamerica.org (teacher organization)

The cornerstone website is a great site for teachers who are just starting out. The site was created by a teacher name Angela Watson who taught for 11years. Angela created the site because she want to help new teachers learn how to properly arrange a classroom that would build a positive mindset for their students as well as allow teachers to enjoy the work they do in their classrooms.

The website included 8 areas that is vitally important when planning the arrangement of a classroom. They are:

1) student desks
2) instructional area in the front of the room
3) teacher’s desk area
4) computers
5) group work areas (tables), including space for small group instruction
6) classroom library
7) whole class meeting area on a rug or carpet (optional)
8) centers (optional)
Angela's website provided detailed reason's why each of the above mentioned areas are important. For instance, the children's desk are first on the list because the students take up most of the space in the classroom. The arrangement of the students desk could either enhance or distract from instruction.
There is a saying that says a picture speaks a thousand words. Well, Angela made sure that teachers had visual aids to assist them with ensuring that their classroom were arranged properly, by providing pictures of the arrangement of her class as well as other teachers classrooms. Angela also provided information that will help teachers design meaningful bulletin boards, as well as detailed information about setting up a library and cozy quiet areas in the classroom. This website was a hidden treasure for all new teachers. I will post some more information about the structure of the classroom, and activities tomorrow. Have a good night bloggers.
